VacCam captures high-quality images and video inside high-vacuum systems for industrial, scientific, and space applications, including manufacturing, testing, and process monitoring.
Built from low-outgassing materials to meet strict contamination standards, it features integrated LEDs for built-in illumination, a USB interface for power and communication, and a compact, modular design for flexible positioning and customisability.
Heat-dissipative mounting points enable effective thermal management for reliable in-vacuum operation.
allows real-time imaging of processes without needing viewports or external optics.
ensures reliable operation in ultra-high vacuum conditions.
provides flexibility to capture either colour images for visual inspection or B&W images for higher sensitivity and contrast in low-light conditions.
supports slow-moving or static process monitoring; sufficient for most in-vacuum experiments without excessive data storage or processing needs.
simplifies installation with a single cable for both data and power, reducing complexity in vacuum feedthrough setups.
enables easy image capture, analysis, and integration with custom software or automation systems, speeding up setup and operation.
monitoring experiments inside vacuum chambers.
particularly where motion is involved.
inspecting processes in vacuum deposition systems, monitoring MEMS/NEMS fabrication inside vacuum chambers, and quality control of components during microelectronics assembly.
testing instruments and components in space-simulating vacuum environments.
VacCam supports C-mount lenses, and XCAM Scientific offers a selection of vacuum-compatible optical options, though customers may also integrate their own.
The system includes fully featured application software and a software developer’s pack, enabling seamless integration into custom control and data acquisition workflows.
Its design allows flexible adaptation to specific experimental setups, ensuring that optical and software configurations can be tailored to unique vacuum monitoring requirements.

“VacCam was developed in response to frequent requests from customers seeking an in-situ vacuum video camera that would enable them to internally monitor operations and processes occuring inside the vacuum chamber.”
A more robust version with multiple camera heads and/or detectors for use inside or outside the vacuum chamber.
VacCam is designed to be fully immersible inside a vacuum chamber down to mbar and is built with vacuum-compatible materials and low-outgassing construction. It is suitable for standard vacuum chamber environments and prevents contamination of in-vacuum processes when properly mounted and used.
VacCam supports RGB colour or black-and-white (greyscale) imaging and can capture video at up to 10 fps, adequate for monitoring slow to moderate-speed processes under vacuum.
VacCam uses a USB 2.0 interface for both power and data, making it straightforward to integrate with standard lab systems. It accepts standard C-mount lenses (vacuum-compatible), you may procure your own custom lenses or use XCAM Scientific’s free-issued basic lens.
Yes – VacCam includes integrated LEDs to provide internal illumination when the camera is placed inside a vacuum chamber, enabling imaging even in the absence of external light.
VacCam must be mounted to a heat-dissipative mounting block or the vacuum chamber itself when used in vacuum, to safely dissipate the heat generated by the electronics (since there is no air convection inside a vacuum chamber). Proper mounting and thermal management are required to maintain safe and stable operation.
