Applications

Synchrotron Experiments

imaging for soft x-ray, extreme ultraviolet (EUV), and high-energy photon detection experiments.

Semiconductor Manufacturing

monitoring in semiconductor processing where contamination control is critical.

Aerospace and Space

imaging inside vacuum chambers used to test aerospace and spacecraft components.

CAVACam is offered in two configurations:

F-model cameras mount directly onto a conflat flange, with all vacuum-clean parts inside the chamber and all electronics on the air side—ideal when the camera head does not need to be immersed.

S-model cameras place all vacuum-clean components, including the detector, on the outside of a hermetically sealed, fully immersible camera head. Data is transferred via vacuum-compatible fibre-optic cables with a single compatible power feed.

Detectors are available in front-illuminated (FI) and back-illuminated (BI) formats, with BI devices optionally uncoated for improved soft x-ray performance. EMCCD options support low-light and single-photon imaging. RGA scans can be provided on request.

XCAM Scientific brings extensive experience in delivering ultra-clean vacuum camera systems to leading scientific and industrial institutions worldwide.

CAVACam in Action

Space Optics Testing
XCAM Scientific provided a CAVACam system for use inside a super-clean vacuum chamber, which is used to test optics for space applications at an OGSE (Optical Ground Support Equipment) facility.
BESSY II
BESSY II is a third-generation synchrotron radiation source that produces extremely bright x-ray light. Researchers from all over the world can use this light for their experiments. XCAM Scientific provided a CAVACam system to the BESSY synchrotron complete with a radiation shield to protect the detector from full beam when not in use.

FAQs

What configurations of CaVACam are available and how do they differ?

XCAM Scientific offers two main CaVACam configurations:

  • F‑model: camera built on a conflat (CF) flange — the ‘vacuum‑clean’ parts inside the chamber, non‑vacuum electronics outside. Suitable if you don’t need to immerse the camera head and prefer a flange‑mounted solution.
  • S‑model: hermetically sealed camera head which can be immersed in the vacuum chamber with vacuum‑clean detector inside the sealed head, data extracted via vacuum‑compatible fibre optic cable, and power via vacuum‑compatible single cable. Suitable for immersed‑head applications where flange mounting is impractical.

CaVACam supports a wide range of detectors: CCD and EMCCD, in front-illuminated (FI) or back-illuminated (BI) formats. For demanding applications, BI detectors (optionally without anti-reflection coating) are available, these are especially useful for soft X-ray detection or other low‑light imaging tasks

CaVACam is constructed from vacuum‑compatible, low‑outgassing materials, and designed to meet UCV/UHV/XHV requirements. If operated per the user instructions, it is guaranteed not to contaminate the vacuum chamber.

Depending on configuration, CaVACam can be equipped with water-cooled Peltier cooling, enabling low-noise, high‑sensitivity imaging. This makes it suitable for photon-counting, low‑light, soft‑X‑ray or other sensitive vacuum experiments.

CaVACam is designed to be modular and adaptable. XCAM Scientific welcomes enquiries for custom configurations, whether that means different detectors, special materials, multiple synchronous camera heads, or specific clean‑vacuum requirements.
