A high-performance multispectral Earth Observation mission concept for next-generation forestry analytics.
TreeView is a cutting-edge Earth Observation (EO) mission concept designed to support precision forestry, delivering high-resolution multispectral data to monitor forest health, biomass, and environmental change. Funded by the UK Space Agency’s National Space Innovation Programme (NSIP), the mission is a collaborative effort led by The Open University, with contributions from XCAM, In-Space Missions, Beck Optronic Solutions, Adiuvo Engineering, Teledyne e2v, 2Excel Geo, and the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology / Forest Research.
Forestry management requires increasingly accurate and frequent data to address challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, disease detection, and sustainable timber production. Traditional Earth observation sensors often lack the spectral sensitivity, resolution, or responsiveness needed for precision forestry at scale.
TreeView seeks to demonstrate:
Within the project, XCAM was responsible for the Electronics and Imaging Subsystem – a set of PC-104 PCBs providing the power and the data interface between the platform and the entire payload, and an imager to capture images of the cold atom cloud within the cold atom trap.
XCAM designed the complete camera system electronics for the TreeView payload, integrating multiple subsystems into a single, high-reliability electronics package.
To reduce technical risk associated with the new CIS125 sensor, XCAM developed a flat-sat breadboard prototype of the payload electronics.
This prototype allows:
